What we collect, and don't.
The short version: no account, no tracking cookies, two preferences that never leave your phone, and a form photographers fill in on purpose.
The short version
- Backcheck has no user accounts. You cannot sign up, and we hold no profile about you.
- Two preferences — your club and your edition (night or morning) — are stored in your browser only. They never reach our servers.
- We measure traffic with Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless and aggregate. It tells us how many people read a page, not who.
- If you send us a photograph through our submission form, we keep what you typed so we can credit you the way you asked.
- We do not sell, rent or trade any of it.
Preferences
When you pick a club, or switch between the Night Desk and Morning Edition, the choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the keys backcheck-club and backcheck-theme. That storage lives on your device, is readable only by this site, and is not transmitted to us. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and referrers. It does not set cookies, does not fingerprint devices, and does not track you across other sites. Vercel processes the request data on our behalf; their own practices are described in the Vercel Privacy Policy.
Like any website, our hosting provider keeps short-lived server logs (IP address, user agent, requested page) for security and reliability. We do not use them to identify readers.
Photograph submissions
If you submit photographs through our contributor form, we collect the name you want credited, your email address, an optional social handle, the image files, and your typed signature accepting the release. We use these to publish and credit your work and to contact you about it. We keep them for as long as the work is published, and we remove them on request.

Third-party data
Scores, schedules, play-by-play and season statistics come from the NHL's public data feeds; every expected-goals figure is computed by our own model from that data. Your browser fetches live scores from our own servers, not from those sources directly, so no request of yours reaches them.
Your rights and how to reach us
Because we hold no account about you, there is nothing to export or delete for most readers. If you have sent us a photograph and want your details or your work removed, or you have any question about this page, write to privacy@backcheckreport.com or message us on Instagram at @backcheck.ducks.
Readers in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and California have rights of access, correction, deletion and objection under their local laws; the same address handles those requests. This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
