Panthers shut out the Golden Knights, 3-0
The Panthers earned it — the game and the expected-goals battle both.
The underlying story
Vegas generated legitimate scoring chances and still scored zero. The Knights posted 1.59 expected goals on two high-danger looks, but Bobrovsky's exceptional performance—saving 1.59 goals above expected—converted a competitive underlying game into a 3-0 shutout.
The Panthers dominated throughout. They controlled 71% of expected goals (3.88 to 1.59), held 60% of shot attempts (26 to 17), and created far more dangerous looks: nine high-danger chances to Vegas's two. The quality gap was even starker. Florida's chances were worth 0.055 expected goals per shot versus 0.033 for Vegas—a structural advantage that extended well beyond the scoreboard.
A.J. Greer's wraparound from the doorstep (third period, 10:04) opened the scoring. S. Reinhart added a second. Bobrovsky's 17-for-17 saves made the shutout official. The 3-0 result looks decisive, but beneath the score lies an uncomfortable truth for Vegas: they had chances, and an elite goaltender simply took them away.
